On August 23, the energy on 52nd Street, in the heart of West Philadelphia, was unmatched and unmistakable. Urban Art Gallery hosted its 2nd Annual Urban Art Fest 52, a culmination of some of the most talented artists, musicians, and community members for an entire day of creativity, connection, and culture.
Event Overview
This year’s festival was amazing and surpassed the outcome of our first Urban Art Fest 52. The vibrant celebration of art, music, and community set the tone. It was a key component in drawing a strong crowd of both residents and visitors throughout the duration of the event.
From start to finish, the day was buzzing with energy and excitement for the day’s festivities, which is proof of how deeply creativity and innovation run through West Philadelphia. The turnout was impressive, but the engagement was even better, with guests exploring various artist and vendor tables, dancing and singing to music and live performances, and collaborating throughout the day.
Highlights Throughout the Night
More than 40 visual artists showcased their work, turning the block into an outdoor living gallery of color, texture, and imagination. Live performances curated by Art and the Funkatorium kept everyone’s energy up from early afternoon to late evening.
Among the outstanding performers and musicians for the night were headliners The Boykinz, who have been competing on America’s Got Talent, and Buddy Red, rapper T.I. 's oldest son. Mars Parker and Ryan Gilfillian also shut down the stage with their amazing vocals and songs.
They all showed up and showed out, putting on a display of unforgettable sets that had the crowd cheering, singing, and dancing along. Each performance was an embodiment of the spirit of Philly’s creative pulse, which is bold, soulful, and authentic.
One of the event's most significant moments came when artist B/lue Robin invited the community to co-create a massive collaborative canvas. This interactive art experience perfectly captured the mission of the Urban Art Festival 52: making art something everyone can be a part of.
In another significant moment, Urban Art Gallery unveiled its new digital gallery, featuring animated photographic pieces by Jeff Manning that seamlessly blend visual storytelling and technology. Nearby, a giant chessboard drew friendly competition amongst guests all day long, inciting laughter and conversation between players of all ages.
Free food and refreshments were also offered for all guests, performers, and artists with a classic summer menu of hot dogs, hot sausages, burgers, soft drinks, and water. These options were simple, but satisfying fuel for a day spent soaking in art and music under the sun.
Thank You to Our Volunteers
The success of the back-to-back Urban Art Fest 52 wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated team of volunteers who had a helping hand in bringing this event to life. From setup and breakdown to artist coordination, guest welcome, and smooth festival operations, their enthusiasm and commitment ensured the day ran with ease.
Their hard work behind the scenes made the celebration more than just a successful event, but a genuine community effort. To every volunteer who gave their time, energy, and effort, thank you! You made this a space where art, culture, and community could collide and thrive side by side.
Looking Ahead
If you missed this year’s Urban Art Fest 52, or never made it at all, don’t worry, it will surely return next year, as this is an annual event. We aim to foster more creativity, collaboration, and community spirit every year. We strive to continue growing stronger and highlighting the talent and unity that define the City of Brotherly Love’s vibrant art scene.
Stay tuned for updates, and be sure to join us for another memorable celebration at Urban Art Gallery, where art leads, life follows, and people are united.
